Grow Your Own Potatoes
Welcome to Potato House and welcome to Grow Your Own Potatoes (GYOP).
GYOP was created and has been delivered by the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) for many years. In recent years it has delivered Grow Your Own packs of seed potatoes, grow bags and instructions to 15,000 classrooms each year, giving school children an insight into where their potatoes come from. Further learning resources linked fresh potatoes to the various ways that we eat potatoes and potato products in the UK.
In 2021 funding for AHDB Potatoes ended and the programme was due to be wound up. Skea Organics and Potato House have been enthusiastic supporters of GYOP for a number of years, having donated seed potatoes. We also support local projects and see the enthusiasm school children have for growing their own potatoes first hand. We are therefore determined not to let the Grow Your Own Potoates programme fall by the wayside and are providing a new home for it within Potato House. Now the hard work begins, we need to find sponsors from within the potato industry to help us keep the programme going. We will update you as soon as possible with availability of packs for 2022 planting.
Subject to final agreement, the AHDB will transfer to us the contacts details of the schools and teachers who have enrolled for the programme in the last two years. We will only use this data for operation of GYOP and will not make any use of it in any other part of our business. You are free to remove your details from the database either before or after the transfer of the data to Potato House on 5th January 2022. Here is the Privacy Notice specific to the GYOP project.
We are a family business breeding and growing seed potatoes in Angus and Perthshire. We are potato lovers - living and breathing potatoes, hence our enthusiasm for supporting this educational programme to its next stage of life.
We are delighted that Sue Lawton who has been running GYOP within AHDB for many years will continue to do so and any questions relating to the programme should be directed to her - sue@potatohouse.co.uk.

We Proudly Support GYOP
We are aiming to raise more funds for next year but in the meantime we can supply the same growing kits from our website and it provides the same access to learning resources.
Would you like to support GYOP?
As we are not a charity and neither is the GYOP project, this would be hard to administer. The easiest thing would be for you to buy a kit and donate it to a local youth group. We can even send this to the group.
